Week 2 Vocabulary Words


1. disappointed- to be sad about someone or something

2. overjoyed- to be very happy

3. grateful- to be thankful

4. nervous- to feel fearful or worried

5. confident- to feel sure of yourself

Synonyms


A synonym is a word that means the same thing as another. They are important because they help us to expand our vocabulary. 

Example: I feel good today. 
                I feel wonderful today. 

Replace the underlined word with a suitable synonym. Look up the meanings if you do not know the word. 

1. I am sick today. 

2. After being in the hospital, the child was quite thin.

3. The teacher was mad because the children were too talkative. 

4. Kim is a beautiful girl.  

5. I think macaroni pie tastes quite bad.

6. The principal dislikes when children wear Nike shoes.

Tourism Tourism means people travelling to places outside of their usual home.  A tourist is anyone traveling for fun, business or visiting relatives. A tourist must stay at least 24 hours but for less than one year. There are different types of tourists. First, a domestic tourist is a person who spends at least one night away from their normal home but still within their own country. Some people call this a ‘staycation’.  Then, there are regional tourists. This is a tourist who travels within a certain region. For example, a Barbadian visiting Jamaica.  Suppose you really wanted to visit New York and see the Statue of Liberty. Then you would be an international tourist. An international tourist is someone who travels across international borders. For example, travelling from Barbados to the United States.  Tourism is great because it creates many jobs for people who work in hotels.
