  Ecosystems Any place on Earth where living things interact with other living and non-living things is called an ecosystem.  The living things are called the biotic factors, or parts, of the ecosystem; the non-living things are called the abiotic factors Ecosystems may be large, such as an ocean or desert . They may also be small, such as a puddle or a rotting log. Relationships in an Ecosystem SYMBIOSIS: Different living things living together where the relationship can either: -benefit one organism -harm one organism -benefit both organisms MUTUALISM: Both species benefits COMMENSALISM: One species benefits and the other does not benefit nor is it harmed PARASITISM: One species benefits and the other is harmed
