Comprehension: Fortnite

Fortnite Fever

Do You Have Fortnite Fever?

Chances are you’ve heard of Fortnite Battle Royale. Fortnite drops 100 competitors on an island to search for weapons and build structures in a journey to become the last player standing. Fortnite has more than 125 million players around the world.

When playing Fortnite, the players view the action as if they are actually the characters they are controlling. Research has shown that these types of games can help to improve concentration.

But research has also linked playing violent video games with depression in children. Dr. Ryan says that children can have an increased heart rate and blood pressure. “They get angry when they aren’t allowed to do it anymore," he said.

“If it becomes harder and harder to take your child away from the game and it’s interfering with their life, that is cause for concern and it may be time to see a counselor.”

However, it's not all bad. One great thing about Fortnite is that it allows children to connect with new friends from all over the world.

  1. What do players aim to do in Fortnite?

  2. How do we know that Fortnite is a very popular game?

  3. Give one benefit of playing Fortnite.

  4. Explain two ways of how Fortnite can negatively affect children.
