How do we know if something is living?

These are the seven characteristics of living things.

Movement
Reproduction
Senses
Growth
Respiration (Breathing)
Excretion
Nutrition

This is why even plants are considered to be living things.

Living things can be classified. This means that they can be put into special groups according to their characteristics.

Vertebrates vs Invertebrates

Is a jellyfish a vertebrate or invertebrate?

Which type of animal would have a soft body?

Did you know that some invertebrates have a tough outer skeleton called the exoskeleton?

What do you think is the purpose of the exoskeleton?
