Alex, a tourist from Canada, was fishing in an area off the Florida coast. Many "NO SWIMMING" signs were posted near the shore.
A huge wave came up suddenly and Alex's boat capsized. Alex could swim, but he was afraid of alligators and hung on tight to the overturned boat.
He drifted towards the shore and finally saw someone on the beach. In his loudest voice, Alex cried out, "Are there any alligators around here?"
"No," answered the man on the beach. "They haven't been around for a few years."
Feeling safe, Alex let go of the boat and started swimming to shore. When he was about half way there, he shouted to the man, "How did you get rid of the alligators?"
"We didn't do anything," replied the man. "The sharks got them!"
