Nathan and his classmate Gregg are preparing a science project for an open day at their primary school.

Nathan:     Gregg, I am so excited to be working with you on this project for open day. I                     really want it to be the best.

Gregg:        That's great, Nathan. Remember our teacher, Mrs. Smith, emphasized that the                       focus of the project is "Keeping it Green".

Nathan:        Green, Gregg? But we don't have any card or paint.

Gregg:            No, Nathan. That is not what keeping it green means.

Nathan:           Oh that's a relief. What does it mean, Gregg?

Gregg:             It means that we are not to use any materials which may be harmful to the                             environment.

Nathan:          What kind of materials shouldn't we use then?

Gregg:         Sprays, paints, powders and packaging material which are harmful to the                          trees, food crops and humans.

Nathan:         What about this plastic bag? Is this harmful?

Gregg:            It certainly is, Nathan. Most plastic bags do not break down. They remain in                         the earth for a long time and can kill plants. When plastic bags are washed                            into the sea, they can even kill turtles.

Nathan:        Oh my, that is terrible. I now understand the importance of going green. Let us                     wear our green tee-shirts to school on open day and hope that our project will                         encourage others to go green.

"Smoke? Look! The grass beside Ms. Thompson's house is burning! We have to warn her!"

The boys abandoned their early morning game of cricket and ran to Ms. Thompson's house shouting.

"Fire, Fire! The grass is burning!"

I was forced to stand in the background, and the sight of those cakes the pupils bought in a joyous uproar and devoured greedily and freely about me, overwhelmed me with passionate desire. Thus I began filling myself with water from the tap, in a corner of the yard and, every now and then, I returned to it, trying to drown my stomach to keep it qui
