Section B- Averages (Calculating an Unknown Value)

Example: 

                The average of four numbers is 18. Three of the numbers are 24, 14 and 21. Find the fourth number. 

            Step 1: Multiply by the total amount of numbers

                                    18 x 4 = 72

Step 2: Add the values given

                24 + 14 + 21 = 59

Step 3: Subtract

            72 - 59 = 13


1. The average of three numbers is 50. Two of the numbers are 32 and 58. What is the third number?


2. After working four days, Kayla made an average of $120. On three of those days she made $96, $145 and $130. How much did she make on the fourth day?


3. Kyle spent an average of 52 minutes studying after three days. On day one he studied for 45 minutes and on day two he studied for one hour and 10 minutes. For how long did he study on day 3? (Give your answer in hours and minutes.)
