At 25, rap legend Tupac Shakur was gunned down on the streets of Las Vegas on September 13, 1996. Fans continue to mourn his tragic unsolved murder.
He is considered by many to be one of the most influential rappers of all time. Much of Shakur's work has been noted for addressing social issues that plagued inner cities, and he is considered a symbol of activism against racism inequality.
Despite being a talented rapper and actor, Tupac's life had many low moments. He was very familiar to the New York Police. He was imprisoned on several occasions for crimes including gun violence as well as assault against a woman.
Following his release from prison in October 1995, after serving eight months Tupac signed with Suge Knight's label Death Row Records in exchange for Knight posting his bail out of prison.
Shakur became heavily involved in the growing East Coast–West Coast hip hop rivalry between 1995 and 1996. On September 7, 1996, Shakur was shot four times by an unknown assailant in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas; he died six days later and the gunman was never captured. The Notorious B.I.G., Shakur's friend turned rival, was at first considered a suspect, but was also murdered in another drive-by shooting six months later
