 Activity 1: Composition

Title: My Favourite Animal

You can use the internet to find additional information about the animal to help write your essay. 

You must include:

  • the name of the animal
  • does it have different breeds?
  • what does it look like
  • where is it found
  • is there anything unique about the animal?
  • its diet
  • at least 3 reasons why you like the animal    

Activity 2: Profit and Loss

Please use the examples from your Maths book to help you answer the questions. 


1. Leo bought this bike for $290. He sold it months later for $185. Calculate the loss he made. 




2. The cost price of this watch is $598. It is sold online and makes a profit of $125. What was the selling price?



3. The original cost of my laptop was $800. I sold it and made a 10% loss. 
a. Calculate the loss. 
b. Calculate the selling price. 


4. Mia bought her table for $980. She sells it and makes a 10% profit. 
a. Calculate the profit she made. 
b. Calculate the selling price.


5. A Samsung originally costs $2400. It gets damaged and is sold to make a 20% loss. 
a. Calculate the loss. 
b. Calculate the selling price. 


6. If the cost price of an item is $420 and is sold to make a 25% profit, what is the selling price?





Activity 3: Averages

Calculate the mean of each set of numbers below:

1.  13, 11, 8, 15, 5, 2


2. 54, 46, 27, 66, 35, 84


3.         9.6, 2.8, 6.5


4.         2.9, 4.5, 8.2, 5.2


5. Find the average of the first ten odd numbers.


6. In a series of tests, Kyle scored the following:     35, 85, 40, 95 and 65. Calculate his average score.
