The apple trees in the orchard were too tall for them to climb, so they sat many days waiting for the branches to sway and the golden apples to fall. Of course, there was always a mad scramble by a dozen boys to collect the ones that could not resist the winds. At times, the boys would throw stones to knock them down but would miss the target.
One Saturday morning when the boys arrived, there were more fruits on the ground than they had expected. At first, they guessed that it was the result of the gusty winds and heavy rains during the night. They were incorrect. The monkeys had climbed the trees and left only the green, bitten apples for them. They swept them into a basket and buried them because they were afraid of eating them and contracting a disease from the monkeys.
