Sometimes the moon moves round. Sometimes you see only a thin slice of it. Does the moon change shape? No, it doesn't. The moon is moving all the time. It is moving around the earth. It takes about twenty-eight days to go around the earth once. As it moves around the earth, we see parts of it. Sometimes we don't see it at all.
Sometimes when the moon is full and round, we go for a walk. We say that we are taking a walk in the moonlight. Does the moon give off its own light? No, it doesn't. The moon is not incandescent. The sun is incandescent. Sunlight shines on the moon, then we see the light reflecting from the moon. The part of the moon that gets the direct sunlight is very hot while it is very cold on the part of the moon that is away from the sun.
The surface of the moon is very interesting. There are rocks and many holes called craters. Some craters are big while some are small. Scientists believe that the craters were formed when rocks from space hit the moon.
A few years ago, some men went to the moon in a spaceship. They had to wear special clothes and take a supply of air with them since there is no air on the moon. There is also no water on the moon. So, this means that the moon probably cannot sustain life.
