Term 1 Week 1- October 7th, 2021 - Class 4 Dialogue Comprehension + Expository Writing

Read the following passage..

Cindy Wiggins works at a small supermarket in The Glebe, St George. Her boss, Mr Springer is away on business. One morning while Cindy was chatting on the telephone, a customer rushed into the supermarket.

CUSTOMER: Good morning, Ma’am. May I have a bottle of cough syrup? My little

girl has a very bad chest cold.

CINDY: (removes the telephone from her ear and shouts at the customer) Hold

on you see that I am busy?

CUSTOMER: Please, Ma’am, I am late for work and my wife needs that cough syrup for our little girl.

CINDY: (Stepping back from the customer) Wait, I hope that you and all of your

family don’t have covid!

CUSTOMER: No, we do not! We have all been tested and are negative.

CINDY: Tested or not, don’t come too close to me.

CUSTOMER: I am wearing a mask so you are fine. May, I have the cough syrup,

please?

CINDY: Well, I am afraid that she has to wait. When the Boss is here he works

me like an old mule. Right now, he is not here and nobody is going to

raise my blood pressure .

(Cindy goes back to her telephone conversation. Meanwhile the customer slowly removes

his hat, beard and moustache.)

CINDY: (Cindy is in shock. She drops the telephone and begins to mumble)

So-so-Sorry, Mr. Springer, I didn’t know it was you.

MR SPRINGER: So that is how you treat my customers? No wonder sales have been

falling. You are fired immediately.

Expository Writing - Writing to Explain

My Most Prized Possession

Beautiful and shiny, soft and majestic- my most prized possession is my flute. I love my flute because I love the way it sounds. Additionally, my flute was a very special gift from my granny. Above all, my flute is my most prized possession because I hope some day to be a world-famous musician.

My flute has a glistening silver color. It is slender with several keys which are used to play musical notes. It has become special to me because I absolutely love the high tones it is able to play. It can also play low soft tones.

Saturday Classes 2024

Saturday, May 18, 2024 Class 3's                                      COMPREHENSION I dared not stir out of my castle for days, lest some savage should capture me. However, I gained a little courage and went with much dread to make sure that the footprint was not mine. I measured my foot against it. Mine was not nearly so large. A stranger, maybe a savage, must have been on shore, and fear again filled my heart. I determined now to make my house more secure than ever. I built another wall around it, in which I fixed six guns, so that, if need be, I could fire six in two minutes. Then I planted young trees all around. I feared my goats might be hurt or stolen from me, so I fenced round several plots of ground, as much out of sight as possible, and put some goats in each plot. I did all this, while I lived with a terrible fear in my mind that I might one day meet an enemy. I had lived eighteen y...

Tourism Tourism means people travelling to places outside of their usual home.  A tourist is anyone traveling for fun, business or visiting relatives. A tourist must stay at least 24 hours but for less than one year. There are different types of tourists. First, a domestic tourist is a person who spends at least one night away from their normal home but still within their own country. Some people call this a ‘staycation’.  Then, there are regional tourists. This is a tourist who travels within a certain region. For example, a Barbadian visiting Jamaica.  Suppose you really wanted to visit New York and see the Statue of Liberty. Then you would be an international tourist. An international tourist is someone who travels across international borders. For example, travelling from Barbados to the United States.  Tourism is great because it creates many jobs for people who work in hotels. It also allows us to see many places all around the world.  What does ‘tourist’ ...
