Area: Finding the Area of the Shaded Portion

Example:

Calculate the area of the shaded region of the rectangle below:

Step 1: Find the area of the outside of the rectangle

10 x 20 = 200m

Step 2: Find the area of the inside of the rectangle

8 x 18 = 144 m

Step 3: Subtract

200 m - 144 m = 56 m²
