Ratio

 

  1. $1200 is to be divided between Alex and David in the ratio 5 : 3. How much does each get?

  2. A man has $520. He wants to share it in the ratio 4:1. Calculate the larger portion.

  3. Divide 12m in the ratio 7:3. Give your answer in centimetres.


  4. Divide $1800 in the ratio 5:3.



  1. Find the larger share when $650 is divided in the ratio 7:3.`



(e.g) Share $300 so that Kelly gets twice as much as Sam.

       The word 'twice' tells us that the ratio= 2: 1

Complete the question as normal.

6. Caleb cut a 6m rope so that one piece is four times as long as the other. Calculate the lengths of both pieces.

Unequal Sharing 1. My teacher has 84 pencils. She shares them between two groups so that one group gets 16 more than the other. How many pencils does each group get?

2. An employer has $600. He must divide it between two employees so that one gets $48 more than the other. How much would each employee get?

3. I have $480.20. I want to deposit it into two accounts so that one account has $26.00 more than the other. How much money would each account have?

4. A race is a total distance of 2km long. Two teammates will run so that one runs 80m more than the other. How many metres will each boy run?
(1000m = 1 km)

5. A length of wood is 3.6m long. It is is cut so that one piece is 12 cm more than the other. How long is each piece?
(100cm=1m)

Metres to Centimetres

To change from metres to centimetres multiply by 100

(e.g) 2 m = 200 cm
(e.g) 4.1 m = 410 cm


Centimetres to Metres

To change from centimetres to metres divide by 100.
(e.g) 500 cm= 5m
(e.g) 3000 cm = 30m


Kilometres to Metres

To change from km to m, multiply by 1000.
(e.g) 25km = 25000m
(e.g) 3.2 km = 3200m

Metres to Kilometres

To change from m to km, divide by 1000.
(e.g) 45m= 0.045km

Tourism Tourism means people travelling to places outside of their usual home.  A tourist is anyone traveling for fun, business or visiting relatives. A tourist must stay at least 24 hours but for less than one year. There are different types of tourists. First, a domestic tourist is a person who spends at least one night away from their normal home but still within their own country. Some people call this a ‘staycation’.  Then, there are regional tourists. This is a tourist who travels within a certain region. For example, a Barbadian visiting Jamaica.  Suppose you really wanted to visit New York and see the Statue of Liberty. Then you would be an international tourist. An international tourist is someone who travels across international borders. For example, travelling from Barbados to the United States.  Tourism is great because it creates many jobs for people who work in hotels.
