Narrative/Descriptive Writing

Week 1 - Narrative / Descriptive Writing

Narrative writing refers to descriptive story writing. Your story should be clear and creative.

A narrative must include:

Setting (Use your senses to describe what you see, hear, feel, smell, taste)
Characters (Who is in the story? Describe their looks and behaviour)
Conflict (What goes wrong in the story?)
Solution (How is the conflict resolved?)

Also, when writing a narrative, use the following to bring your story to life:

Use similes, metaphors and personification

(e.g) The sun was as hot as fire
(e,g) The touch of the wind caused the leaves to dance happily in the trees

Use dialogue where necessary

Write a descriptive paragraph based on the images below.

Tourism Tourism means people travelling to places outside of their usual home. A tourist is anyone traveling for fun, business or visiting relatives. A tourist must stay at least 24 hours but for less than one year. There are different types of tourists. First, a domestic tourist is a person who spends at least one night away from their normal home but still within their own country. Some people call this a ‘staycation’. Then, there are regional tourists. This is a tourist who travels within a certain region. For example, a Barbadian visiting Jamaica. Suppose you really wanted to visit New York and see the Statue of Liberty. Then you would be an international tourist. An international tourist is someone who travels across international borders.
