Carly frowned as she watched the school bus drive away. Her brother Jake was leaving for school, but she would not be going because she was sick. Today was a special day at school. They would be having a talent show, and she would miss it.

Someone knocked on her bedroom door. Mom came in. “How’s my princess?” Mom asked. Carly shrugged. She didn’t want to be grumpy to Mom. “I have something exciting planned for today.” Mom smiled and pulled out a bag. What could be inside? Carly opened the bag and gasped. Inside, she found a crown, a wand, and a princess book. “You are my princess for today,” Mom said. “Put on your crown, and keep your wand close!”

Carly put on the shiny crown. She didn’t feel so grumpy now. She and Mom read the book about princesses. They pretended to make magic with the wand. They had a tea party and a parade with all of Carly’s stued animals.

Soon, the school bus arrived again. Carly’s brother Jake was home. “Does this mean I’m not a princess anymore?” Carly asked. Mom smiled. She had a twinkle in her eye. “The day isn’t over yet!” Mom and Jake did a funny performance for Carly. She clapped and laughed at their silly antics. Then they ate snacks and watched a movie together. “I like being a princess,” Carly said with a sigh. Mom hugged Carly. “Don’t worry,” she said. “You are always my princess.”

When I fall asleep, I dream about what it would be like to have a rocket ship. My first destination would be the Earth’s moon, which is called Luna. When I get to Luna I would jump all around, and because there is no gravity, I would be able to jump very high.
After I am finished jumping all over the moon, I would fly to Saturn and travel around Saturn’s beautiful rings. On my way to Saturn, I would try to avoid a number of Asteroids. Asteroids are large pieces of rocks and minerals.

COMPOSITION

Write about making your favourite meal.

My favourite meal is a ham and cheese sandwich with ice-cold mauby. I love to eat this on evenings after school.
The ingredients I need for this amazing meal are bread, cheese, ham and a tomato. Mustard is also great for my sandwich. I will also need water, limes and sugar to make the lemonade.
First, start by toasting the bread in the toaster oven. Then, you must carefully slice the tomato into four slices. Next, take the mustard and spread it on the two pieces of bread. After this, slice the cheese and place it on the bread. The ham is added next. Put the bread on top and the sandwich is finished!

Lastly, we must make lemonade. The first thing I do is to cut the limes in half. Secondly, I squeeze the lime juice into a large glass. After I squeeze all the limes, I add one spoonful of sugar. The next part is easy. I just add water and stir. Just like that, my favourite meal is finished. It is so yummy!

Section C- Reading & Comprehension

Bringing a puppy home is an exciting time for children. As new owners, we must remember that this is a big change for the puppy. This puppy will be in a new environment with new sounds, smells, and a brand new family.

Place your new puppy on a leash and allow it to roam its new environment.  While most new owners may feel a dog house is lonely and cold, this is actually the easiest way to form good sleep habits. It also stops the puppy from getting into trouble while you’re sleeping.

When walking your puppy, be sure to keep your puppy on a short leash by your side. Do not allow the puppy to pull you. The puppy should follow your command.

Teaching a puppy to socialize around 12 weeks old will make for an easier lifestyle. Socialising means that you allow him to meet new people. Like children, puppies love hugs and plenty of play.

Questions

1. What are two things that will be new to the puppy?

2. Why do you think the puppy should be placed on a leash?

3. Why is it a good idea to let the puppy stay in a dog house?

4. Give a synonym to replace 'roam'.

5. What does socialising mean?

6. What part of speech is 'teaching'?

And five times a day I was forced to endure this spectacle without participating in it. I never had a cent to my name. I was forced to stand in the background, and the sight of those cakes the pupils bought in a joyous uproar and devoured greedily and freely about me, overwhelmed me with passionate desire. Thus I began filling myself with water from the tap, in a corner of the yard and, every now and then, I returned to it, trying to drown my stomach to keep it qui
